Ja Tak Bike Rental

Rental terms

1. Booking and payment

1.1 A bike is only booked once payment has gone through. This ensures that your bike is reserved and waiting for you when you arrive.

1.2 For online bookings we accept major credit and debit cards, such as Visa and Mastercard, and other payment methods that depend on your country. The payment box shows the ones available to you. Walk-in customers can also pay in cash, in Danish kroner.

1.3 While you pay online, we hold the bikes for 15 minutes.

1.4 All prices include all taxes.

1.5 Your price is fixed when you book. If our prices for your dates change later, up or down, your price stays the same.

2. Rental period

2.1 A rental day runs until 09:30 the next morning. A three-day rental collected on Monday is due back by 09:30 on Thursday.

2.2 For walk-in customers, the return time is agreed at the shop.

3. Pickup, return and delivery

3.1 You pick up the bikes from, and return them to, the location in your booking, unless we have agreed otherwise.

3.2 In opening hours, you can pick up the bikes at any time. Outside them, you pick them up at the time you chose when booking; these times can be booked until 18:00 the day before. Someone is at the shop from 10 minutes before to 20 minutes after that time, and may have left if you are late without telling us.

3.3 If you return the bikes outside opening hours, park them in the return area and lock them with all the locks. Put the keys and the loose accessories in the designated self-return box: loose accessories are anything we gave you that is not fixed to the bike, such as a phone holder or a light on an elastic band. Anything fixed to the bike or part of it, such as the bell, screwed-on lights and the saddle, stays on the bike. Then take a photo of the locked bikes and email it to return@jatakbikerental.dk.

3.4 The bikes remain your responsibility until we have checked them in. The time you send your photo counts as your return time.

3.5 If we deliver your bikes, we leave them locked with a combination lock at a quiet spot near your address, and send you the location, a photo and the lock code. We collect them as agreed in your booking.

3.6 Delivered bikes are your responsibility from the moment we send you the lock code until we collect them.

3.7 Please bring photo ID when you collect the bikes. The name on it must match the name on the booking.

4. E-bikes

4.1 To avoid battery theft, please take the battery with you whenever you leave the e-bike unattended, even when it is locked, and take it inside your hotel or accommodation overnight. The battery is your responsibility.

5. Range

5.1 Our regular adult bikes, kids' bikes, cargo bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes are meant for cycling in the greater Copenhagen area, within about 20 to 30 km. If you want to go further, we recommend our touring bikes.

6. Cancelling and changing dates

6.1 Cancelling is free until 72 hours before 09:30 on the first day of your rental. Please cancel by email to rental@jatakbikerental.dk, and we refund the full amount the way you paid.

6.2 If you cancel less than 72 hours before, the full price is charged.

6.3 If you do not come to collect your bikes, or use only part of the time you booked, we do not refund the unused time.

6.4 Weather is not a reason for a refund.

6.5 To change your dates, cancel and book again. Cancelling is free up to 72 hours before your rental starts, and the new booking is at the price for the new dates. Less than 72 hours before, please email us at rental@jatakbikerental.dk: if the bikes are free on your new dates, we will see what we can do.

6.6 If we cancel your booking ourselves, for any reason, you get back everything you paid.

6.7 Bikes rented for a set date are not covered by the 14-day right to cancel online purchases (Danish Consumer Contracts Act, section 18(2), no. 12).

7. Booking through a partner hotel

7.1 These terms also apply when a partner hotel books your bikes.

7.2 If the hotel sends you a payment link, we hold the bikes for 60 minutes while you pay.

7.3 If the hotel puts the rental on your room bill, your booking is confirmed as soon as the hotel makes it. To cancel or change it, please contact the hotel.

8. Responsibility

8.1 You ride at your own risk and are responsible for how you use the bike, including any harm you cause to other people or their belongings.

8.2 You are responsible for keeping the bike in good condition while it is in your care.

8.3 We cannot help with punctures or other problems once you have left the shop. During opening hours, you are welcome to come back and exchange the bike, or get a quick repair if no other bike is available.

8.4 We are not responsible for traffic accidents or for faults in the bike. Checking the bike before you leave is your responsibility (section 9).

8.5 If something happens, we cannot collect the bike from anywhere else for repair: the bike must be returned to the location in your booking, or collected as agreed if we delivered it. If we have to collect it from anywhere else, you pay the cost.

8.6 Please cycle carefully and responsibly, and get to know the Danish traffic rules.

9. Checking the bike

9.1 It is your responsibility to check that the bike is in safe working order before you leave. Our staff do their utmost to give you a bike without faults, but we may have missed something, so please check these before you leave the shop:

  • tyre pressure
  • brakes
  • gears
  • bell
  • lights
  • locks and keys
  • the basket, if your bike has one
  • a helmet, if you want one

9.2 Please tell us about anything wrong with the bike before you leave. Ask us for trip suggestions too.

10. Helmets

10.1 A helmet is available for every rider, at the price shown when you book or at the shop. Helmets are self-service: you choose and adjust your own.

10.2 Helmets are not mandatory under Danish law, for adults or children, but we recommend them. Not wearing one is at your own risk.

11. How the bikes may be used

11.1 The bikes may not be used for racing, towing, stunts or anything unlawful.

11.2 No off-road riding, except on gravel and forest paths on a touring bike or a mountain bike.

11.3 No passengers, except children in a cargo bike box (up to its recommended weight), in a child seat (from 9 to 22 kg) or in a toddler seat (from 9 to 15 kg).

11.4 Only the people in your booking may ride the bikes. You may not sublet or lend them to anyone else.

11.5 The person named on the booking is responsible for every bike in the booking, including bikes ridden by children.

12. Insurance

12.1 We do not offer insurance for unforeseen costs or emergencies. Please check your own travel insurance before renting a bike.

13. Theft

13.1 All bikes come with high-quality locks. Always lock the bike with all the locks provided.

13.2 If a bike is stolen, please tell us as soon as you can, and bring us the keys. You pay its value as listed in section 14.

14. Damage and loss

14.1 Normal wear and tear, such as a puncture, is not charged.

14.2 You are responsible for damage, theft or loss, and may be charged up to the full value of a new bike:

  • City bike, touring bike or mountain bike: DKK 4,500
  • Kids' bike: DKK 3,200
  • Bike with child seat or toddler seat: DKK 5,500
  • E-bike: DKK 14,000
  • Cargo bike: DKK 15,000

14.3 A lost key costs DKK 250 for a frame lock and DKK 350 for a folding lock.

14.4 If we change these amounts later, your booking keeps the amounts listed on the day you booked.

15. Extensions

15.1 If you want to extend your rental, please contact us as soon as you know, because we are often fully booked. Email is best, at rental@jatakbikerental.dk. If your rental ends soon, call us on +45 42 83 85 94 or come to the shop. Extensions depend on availability and are charged extra.

16. Late returns

16.1 If you return the bike later than your return time, we charge a full extra day.

17. Your personal data

17.1 We never sell your data. How we use your details, and how to see or delete them, is described on our privacy page: https://jatakbikerental.dk/en/privacy/

18. Force majeure

18.1 If events outside our control, such as natural disasters, civil unrest, strikes or public health emergencies, stop us from providing your rental, we refund you in full, or move your booking if you prefer.

18.2 If such events stop you from reaching the shop, our normal cancellation rules apply. We advise you to contact your travel insurance.

19. Complaints and law

19.1 If something is wrong, please tell us first, and we will try to put it right.

19.2 If we cannot solve a complaint together, you can complain to Nævnenes Hus, Mæglingsteamet for Forbrugerklager, Toldboden 2, 8800 Viborg, Denmark, naevneneshus.dk.

19.3 Danish law applies.
